Solatrex has been associated with the quartz electronic watch industry since its inception. Our early product range included LED watches in the 1970s, which were produced under our brand name “Telstar”.

As the electronic watch industry developed we have moved from LED to LCD to quartz analogue watch technology.

Our Telstar brand enjoys a strong position on the Irish market and in a number of European countries, with a wide range of quartz watches for children and adults priced from €20 to €180.

Organisational History

Our company, Calcul, was established in Shannon, Ireland in 1974 with a focus on sales of electronic calculators on the Irish market.

Two years later, we started a separate export company, Solatrex, in the Shannon Free Zone, offering electronics items like video games and calculators. Around the same time, we started to move into the burgeoning new electronic watch industry which would later become the core of the business.

Over years the two companies operated together, with Solatrex responsible for exports and Calcul selling the same products to retailers on the domestic Irish market.

In 2012, operations of Calcul and Solatrex were merged into one entity for simplicity. To provide a seamless transition for customers, Solatrex continues to use the trading name “Calcul” in Ireland, operating from our original location in Shannon Free Zone.
