Looking for a Challenge in 2018, how about embarking on our STEP 1 course specifically designed for jewellers.

 

STEP1 Staff Training & Education Programme by the Association of Fine Jewellers.    We have a very exciting development in that now STEP1 has been accepted as an educational equivalent to JET1.  This means that all Irish students who have completed STEP1 can now progress directly onto the Diploma JET2 course  with the NAJ.

 

We feel our STEP1 programme is more relevant to the Irish retail trade and covers the following topics :

  • Encouraging a Sale
  • Product Knowledge

o    Watches

o    Jewellery

o    Diamonds

o    Gemstones

o    Gifts

o    Product Repairs & Maintenance

 

Included now in our new revised edition are two full day workshops given by the course writers, Padraic Lavin FGA.PJ Dip (Dist) and Mary Bourke FGA.DGA.  One workshop will dedicate an entire day to understanding diamonds and the second workshop will include all day to day counter practices such as taking in repairs and best customer service.

 

Also new to the course will be our end of module assignments, where all students will have to submit exercises during the term.  We feel this helps to keep students focused and manage time frames.

 

All students will sit a formal exam and if successful will be presented with their certificate by the Assay Master.  All students scoring above 95% will be presented with the Assay Masters Medal and will witness it being hallmarked.  The Communications Clinic, who work for the Goldsmiths Hall in Dublin, ensure that all students photographs will appear in their local newspaper which is local to the relevant business.  Students find the PR element attracts great attention from customers who compliment them on achieving their certificate.  All successful students are awarded the STEP1 Badge which they wear with great pride.    We find that students learn so much from one another at the workshops and they really engage with the proceedings.

 

The cost of the course is €395 plus VAT for members of the Association of Fine Jewellers.  Non members are permitted to take part at a fee of €495 plus VAT.
